The Codes of Practice have now been published today marking a significant point in the development of the Points Based System. These are very important documents which set the benchmarks for salaries in the Tier 2 category and levels of skilled jobs that will be allowed under the issue of Certificates of Sponsorship for migrant workers. Some salary bands may come as a surprise to many employers.

The UK Border Agency has announced plans to change the UK immigration appeals process; to address the burden on the higher courts by the UK immigration system and to bring the process in line with other changes under the Points Based System.

UK Employers told to Prepare for Points Based System

15 August 2008

The UK Border Agency has launched a series of campaigns to advise employers of their new obligations and duties under the Points Based System which is due to take effect in November 2008.

If a UK employer does not have a licence in place by this date and subsequently wishes to make an application to bring a skilled worker from outside the EEA and/or wishes to extend an existing employees permission to stay in the UK, the application will be automatically refused.

Updates on Bulgarians and Romanians Working in the UK
26th February 2008

The Home Office has published figures for the number of Bulgarians and Romanians registering to work in the UK.

According to statistics, 30,570 individuals had their applications granted in 2007. An additional 7,295 were issued cards for the Seasonal Agricultural Workers scheme in 2007.
