	Points Based System [PBS] launched today 29th February 2008 The new Points Based System [PBS] is taking effect from today; Tier 1 for Highly Skilled Migrants is the first of five separate Tiers, providing a robust and measured means of ensuring that only the best can work in Britain. Other changes include the introduction of new licences for employers that wish to employ migrant workers, which will be a mandatory requirement for Tier 2 Work Permit applications, which are due to take effect in Autumn 2008, together with on-the-spot fines being issued to those employers that do not confirm to the rules and anyone found hiring illegal workers in the UK. Engineering Shortage Occupations
For jobs that are listed below the person must have a degree with at least 2 years relevant experience from a civil, structures or electrical background. Senior positions in these posts would be expected to have at least 5 years relevant experience.

Structural / Bridge Engineers
For jobs that are listed below the person must have a degree with at least 2 years relevant experience from a structures background. Senior posts in the jobs listed below would generally require appropriate chartered status and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.

Transportation and highways engineers
For jobs that are listed below the person must have a transport related degree or a degree with at least 2 years relevant experience from a civil background.
