For skilled individuals with a job offer from a UK employer (sponsor). Tier 2 has replaced the work permit scheme. Initial applications are granted for three years. Extension applications are granted for a further two years. There are also transitional arrangements in place for those who are already in the UK under a previous scheme.
You can apply from within the UK or overseas. In all cases, you must show how you meet the criteria with original evidence. This will include evidence of qualifications; together with details of the job that you have been offered. This will also mean demonstrating your proficiency in English and that you have sufficient funds to support yourself and any dependents (known as maintenance).
