There are six sub-categories of Tier 5:
Creative and sporting
To work or perform as sportsperson, entertainer or creative artist for up to 12 months. Must be internationally established at the highest level or making a significant contribution to the development and running of the sport at the highest level in the UK. Coaches must be suitably qualified to do the job.
Charity workers
To take part in unpaid voluntary work which is directly related to the sponsoring organisation.
Religious workers
To participate in preaching duties, pastoral work and non-pastoral work; or to continue the same work as currently doing in an overseas organisation within the UK.
Government authorised exchange
To undertake skilled work through approved schemes. The sponsor must be a recognised overarching body supported by a UK government department. Employers cannot sponsor individuals in this sub-category, (except sponsored researchers).
International agreement
To come to the UK under contract to do work covered by international law. This will include the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS); similar agreements between the UK and another country; employees of overseas governments and international organisations; and private servants in diplomatic households.
Youth mobility scheme
For young people from participating countries (Australia, Canada, Japan and New Zealand). The national government will act as the sponsor. British overseas citizens, British overseas territories citizens and British nationals (overseas) can apply without a sponsor.
