Returning Resident

You will be required to show that you:

•      Were settled in the UK when you last left
•      Have not been away for more than two years and you are coming back to live here permanently
•      Did not require assistance from public funds to leave the UK.

My passport which contains this stamp has expired. What do I do?

If the passport which contains this stamp subsequently expires, you will not need to have this transferred to the new passport as long as you present both passports at immigration control. Alternatively, you can have this transferred into a new passport if you wish. This will require you to make the relevant application.

What if I have been away for more than two years?

You must apply for a visa at the UK Embassy overseas. You may still be eligible to come back to the UK as a returning resident (e.g you have strong family ties or have lived in the UK for most of your life).
